Nano Banana 2.1 releases with major upgrades to AI image generation, editing, visual design & subject consistency
If you ever thought Google’s Nano Banana 2 was already impressive, think again, because a new upgraded image generation model has just dropped. Google today launched Nano Banana 2.1, its latest image generation and editing model.
Nano Banana 2.1 is getting seriously better at creating images
Google says Nano Banana 2.1 outperforms its previous models across the board. The company is highlighting major improvements in visual design, mask-based editing, and subject consistency. That last upgrade could be especially useful when creating multiple images featuring the same subject. Google says the new model can produce more natural-looking results.
Mask-based editing is another major focus this time. The technology should give creators more control when making targeted changes to generated images. Google has not shared detailed benchmark numbers with the announcement. However, the company says the improvements represent notable leaps over its previous models.
Google is already pushing Nano Banana 2.1 everywhere
The rollout is not limited to Google’s Gemini chatbot. Nano Banana 2.1 is starting to reach Gemini, AI Mode in Search, and Google AI Studio. Flow by Google and Stitch by Google are also getting access. Google Ads and the Gemini Enterprise Platform are included in the rollout too.
Google is effectively putting its upgraded image model across both consumer and professional AI tools. All that said, Nano Banana 2.1 is designed to create better images while making editing more natural and consistent.
