Microsoft has released PowerToys 0.102.3001, a small hotfix update that fixes crashes affecting File Locksmith and Quick Accent.

The update arrives less than a week after PowerToys 0.102.2933, which launched on October 21, 2026, with new features, including Mouse Button Lock and CursorHide.

Unlike the previous release, this update focuses entirely on fixing bugs and improving stability.

PowerToys 0.102.3001 fixes two crashes

According to Microsoft’s release notes, the hotfix addresses two issues that could cause PowerToys utilities to crash.

File Locksmith no longer crashes when file-handle scans stall or after the scanning process finishes. The fix should help users who rely on the utility to identify which applications are using specific files.

Quick Accent also receives a crash fix. Previously, the utility could crash when users activated it with arrow keys after changing languages or switching from a shorter character list.

Microsoft recommends installing PowerToys 0.102.3001 if you’ve experienced either of these problems.

The update introduces no new features, so users who haven’t encountered these crashes shouldn’t expect any noticeable changes.

In other Microsoft news, the company is bringing an AI-powered Get Data feature to Excel for the web, allowing users to import and transform data using natural language.

Microsoft has also warned IT administrators to migrate Defender APIs before February 2027 to avoid disruptions to existing security tools and automated workflows.
