New Windows 11 Experimental (Canary) Build Improves File Explorer Reliability & More
Windows 11 Experimental (26H1) Preview Build 28020.2149 is out now for Insiders
Microsoft is rolling out another small but a useful Windows 11 Insider update in the Experimental (26H1) channel. Worth noting that all the changes and improvements rolling out with Experimental (26H1) Preview Build 28020.2149 also applies to Canary 28000 series Channel Insiders, too.
Windows 11 now handles Dev Drive sizing in GB
One of the most useful improvements lands inside Windows 11’s Dev Drive setup experience. Microsoft has finally updated the volume creation dialog to support storage size input in gigabytes instead of only megabytes. In simple words, users no longer need to type absurdly large MB numbers when creating or resizing Dev Drives under Settings > System > Storage. The same improvement also applies when adjusting volume sizes later inside Windows Settings.
Microsoft is also improving overall explorer.exe reliability in this build. According to the changelog, the company fixed stability issues linked to closing the input switcher and switching between multiple desktops. For some users, these bugs previously caused explorer.exe crashes or unstable desktop behavior.
Microsoft is also improving one of Windows’ oldest and most recognizable fonts. The company says the Times New Roman font family now delivers improved rendering for combining diacritical marks across Greek and Cyrillic scripts. The update reportedly improves positioning accuracy, reduces rendering inconsistencies, and makes text easier to read for users working in those languages.
Microsoft has also warned Insiders about one lingering issue linked to “Reset this PC.” The company says resets may still get stuck unless users choose the cloud download option instead of local reinstall. In addition, Microsoft has also released Beta channel Build 26220.8491 and Experimental (Dev) channel Build 26300.8497.
