OpenAI is reportedly exploring an X-like social network built around ChatGPT, according to a new report by The Verge, which cited multiple sources familiar with the matter.

While the project remains in its early stages, an internal prototype is said to combine ChatGPT’s image-generation capabilities with a social feed where users can share and interact with AI-created content. Not to forget, Google recently also announced a collab with media artist Refik Anadol to open a new AI art muesum, Dataland, in Los Angeles tomorow.

Speaking of OpenAI’s social platform, CEO Sam Altman has reportedly been seeking feedback from people outside the company, though it remains unclear whether OpenAI plans to launch a standalone social app or integrate the experience directly into ChatGPT.

Considering the growth of ChatGPT and user base, the launch of a social feed could be a win-win situation for the company. If the idea comes into futition, OpenAI’s social platform could rival Elon Musk’s X (FKA Twitter) and Meta AI’s reported social media platform.

As reported, OpenAI is mulling over a prototype is that lets the use of AI to help users create more engaging posts. As one person working at a rival AI lab put it: “The Grok integration with X has made everyone jealous.” In the past, Sam Altman also teased that the company might introduce “a social app,” especially after reports of social platform for Meta AI.

For now, there’s no guarantee the project will ever see light of the day. However, the fact that we have the first report detailing tidbits of it hints that OpenAI could be serious about challeging Elon Musk at his own game, and beef up the rivalry even more following Musk’s recent loss in the landmark lawsuit.
