OpenAI is expanding ChatGPT into financial research and enterprise data analysis with two new products aimed at professional users. The company has launched ChatGPT for Financial Services alongside a new Data agent for ChatGPT Work.

The additions target tasks ranging from investment banking and equity research to company-wide business intelligence and dashboard creation.

Data agent brings natural-language analysis to ChatGPT Work

OpenAI’s new Data agent for ChatGPT Work lets employees investigate company data using natural-language questions instead of manually writing database queries.

Users can ask an initial business question, inspect the results, and continue with follow-up questions to explore the data further. Once the analysis is complete, the agent can create interactive dashboards that teams can edit, share, and refresh.

The Data agent can also work with dashboards in Power BI, Tableau, Sigma, Omni, Oracle BI, and ThoughtSpot.

Rather than treating enterprise information as raw data, the agent can use an organization’s existing business definitions, metrics, calculations, and relationships. It also supports semantic layers such as dbt, Snowflake Horizon, Databricks Genie Ontology, and existing BI dashboards.

Major enterprise data platforms are supported

The Data agent connects directly to Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, ClickHouse, Databricks, MongoDB, Snowflake, and Datadog.

It can also retrieve documents and files stored in Google Drive and SharePoint, allowing employees to combine structured company data with internal documents during an investigation.

OpenAI positions the tool as a way for employees to answer business questions without having to wait for an analyst to prepare a report.

ChatGPT for Financial Services targets finance professionals

OpenAI has also announced ChatGPT for Financial Services, a specialized version of ChatGPT Work built for investment banking and equity research.

The service combines GPT-6 Astra with specialized financial datasets and tools for professional finance workflows.

It can assist with earnings analysis, valuation work, LBO modeling, buyer screening, and pitchbook preparation.

Integrated financial data providers include Daloopa, PitchBook, LSEG News, and Crunchbase. OpenAI is also working with S&P Capital IQ, MSCI, Moody’s, Factiva, and other providers so financial institutions can use their existing data subscriptions through ChatGPT.

Availability differs between the two products

The Data agent forms part of ChatGPT Work and targets broader enterprise data analysis.

ChatGPT for Financial Services has a narrower rollout and is available only to eligible financial institutions.

The launches come as OpenAI continues expanding its enterprise and developer offerings. The company recently paused its $200 Pro Plan amid growing GPT-6 demand, while GPT-Live-1 is now available to developers through the API.
