OpenAI May Charge $500 for ChatGPT Pro Max and Faster Codex

OpenAI appears to be preparing a new ChatGPT Pro Max subscription priced at $500 per month, although the company has not officially announced the plan.

The unannounced tier has started appearing in ChatGPT’s subscription interface alongside Plus and the existing Pro plan. Some users reportedly see prices closer to $600 after local taxes or VAT, while the base subscription price appears to be $500 per month.

ChatGPT Pro Max could offer faster Work and Codex

One of the clearest differences shown in the interface is “Fastest Work and Codex,” suggesting Pro Max could prioritize performance for demanding coding and agentic workloads.

The plan also appears to include access to OpenAI’s most capable frontier models, maximum memory, 100GB of file storage, and early access to new features.

OpenAI has not disclosed the exact usage limits for Pro Max. However, the $500 price suggests the company could position it above the current Pro subscription with substantially higher allowances.

Cerebras could potentially power the faster experience

The “Fastest Work and Codex” description has also sparked speculation that OpenAI could use Cerebras hardware for some Pro Max workloads. Neither OpenAI nor Cerebras has confirmed such an arrangement.

OpenAI has also not confirmed when ChatGPT Pro Max will launch or whether any benefits currently included with ChatGPT Pro could eventually move to the more expensive tier.
