[UPDATED] OpenAI Outage Today: ChatGPT & Codex Down for Thousands of Users

[UPDATE: April 20, 20:59 IST] OpenAI has updated its status page with the following message:

“We are investigating the issue for the listed services. Impacted users are currently unable to access ChatGPT, Codex and API Platform.”

As of now, the company hasn’t provided any resolution time. However, on Downdetector, user reports appear to be decreasing, which means that users are noticing some improvement.

[ORIGINAL STORY] If you have been getting constant errors on ChatGPT this morning, let me tell you the AI assistant is down right now. Yes, you read that correct.

Over on OpenAI’s Status page, the company has confirmed widespread outage across Codex and ChatGPT. The company has said, “We are investigating the issue for the listed services.” The issue started at 08:35 AM PDT / 11:35 AM EDT.

At the time of writing this, on DownDetector, over 1700 user reports regarding ChatGPT have been recorded, hinting that it is a widespread issue.

Well, this isn’t the first time we have reported an outage for ChatGPT. Earlier this year, similar reports surfaced where users were unable to interact with the AI assistant.

Users have reported constant failure with the option to “Retry” under their query. While in some cases, ChatGPT isn’t responding at all.
