Perplexity is quietly turning into more than a search engine. With a new feature called Labs, the company is testing how far it can push AI beyond text responses. Pro users now get access to something that feels closer to a workbench, where you can build full research reports, charts, spreadsheets, even lightweight apps, just by asking.

Perplexity Labs isn’t just another AI feature

This isn’t a shortcut for one-liner answers. Labs is built to spend time on your request—about 10 minutes per project. Behind the scenes, it reads the web, writes and runs code, makes images or charts, and lays everything out in a workspace. You get a stack of files, visuals, and working pieces you can use however you want.

There’s a new Assets tab that holds every file the AI created while working: graphs, CSVs, code files, text docs, and more. Need a dashboard instead? Ask. Labs can turn your prompt into a live, clickable app—something you can view in a browser tab without building anything yourself.

Perplexity’s “Deep Search” is also being renamed to “Research” to make room for this new layer. The idea is that Labs handles the heavy jobs, Research handles deep reading, and Search gives you fast answers.

Labs is available now to Pro users on the web, iOS, and Android. Support for the Mac and Windows apps is coming soon. No fancy inputs needed—just type what you need, and let it build.
