Phone Link Could Soon Shut Down Your Windows 11 PC

Microsoft is working on remote Windows 11 shutdown controls that could let Android users restart, shut down, or put their PCs to sleep through Link to Windows.

According to Windows Latest, references to the feature have appeared inside the Android app’s code, although Microsoft has not enabled the controls yet.

A debug log from an August 25, 2026 build shows the Remote PC controls disabled, with both isRemotePcControlsV2Enabled=false and experimentEnabled=false.

However, newly discovered strings reveal several commands Microsoft appears to be preparing, including Restart, Shut down, Sleep, Update and restart, and Update and shut down.

The last two options suggest that Microsoft plans to connect the feature with Windows Update. Users could potentially install pending updates while remotely restarting or shutting down their PCs.

Microsoft also appears to be adding safeguards before executing these commands. Remote shutdown and restart actions will show confirmation dialogs warning users that they could lose unsaved work.

If Windows needs to finish installing an update, Link to Windows will display an additional warning before proceeding.

Sleep works differently. Microsoft warns that putting the PC to sleep will disconnect the phone, and users will need to wake the computer manually before reconnecting.

The code points to a component called RemoteControlManager, which appears to handle these remote PC actions.

Microsoft has not enabled the feature for testers, so there is currently no way to try it. Still, the number of finished strings, warnings, and confirmation dialogs suggests development may already be fairly advanced.
