Powerpoint just got supercharged with powerful, new image editing tools
Microsoft is expanding PowerPoint’s capabilities with a new set of built-in image editing tools. The company says the feature will let users enhance visuals directly inside a presentation without switching to another app. Per the official Tech Community blogpost, the update is currently rolling out to PowerPoint for the web and Insider builds on Windows and Mac. Once available, users can edit images directly on slides using a new Edit Image option in the Picture Format menu.
Microsoft brings handy image editing tools to PowerPoint
As part of this update, PowerPoint can now handle several common image edits on its own. Users can remove backgrounds, erase unwanted objects, move elements inside an image, or upscale resolution to improve quality. Microsoft has also added tools such as Auto Enhance, text editing inside images, and visual effects. The goal is to help presenters quickly refine visuals without interrupting their workflow.
To use the feature, users can simply select an image on a slide and click the Edit Image button in the ribbon or right-click menu. From there, edits can be previewed in real time before applying the final changes to the slide. Microsoft says the tools should be useful for tasks like cleaning up screenshots, improving low-resolution images, adding annotations, or removing distracting elements from photos.
The feature is rolling out gradually to PowerPoint for the web and Insider versions on desktop. It is available on Windows starting with Version 2510 (Build 19422.20000) and on Mac with Version 16.104 (Build 25121423). As with many Microsoft 365 updates, the company notes that features may appear gradually while it monitors quality and performance. Some preview features could also change before mass rollout.
