It’s official. After months of speculation and vague teases, Capcom has finally unveiled the next mainline Resident Evil game—and it’s not just “Resident Evil 9.” It’s Resident Evil Requiem, and yes, it’s as haunting as it sounds.
Resident Evil Requiem (Resident Evil 9) Release Date
If you were watching Summer Game Fest 2025 hoping for a quick teaser or title drop, Capcom gave you far more than that. Not only did we get the chilling name reveal, but Resident Evil Requiem already has a release date: February 27, 2026. It’s headed to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
But not everything was crystal clear. In a surprise moment, executive producer Jun Takeuchi showed up at the event only to admit he wasn’t quite ready to “announce anything”—just before the game’s terrifying trailer rolled. Well, Capcom was being Capcom.
The trailer itself is a masterclass in atmospheric dread. We meet a new protagonist, Grace, who’s returning to the hotel where her mother died. Long-time fans may have expected Rose (from Resident Evil Village) to lead the story, but Capcom seems to be taking a different route. Also teased? A return to Raccoon City—because, of course.
We didn’t get any solid gameplay footage, so it’s still unclear whether Requiem will be first- or third-person. What we did get, though, is arguably the most terrifying trailer the series has delivered so far.
