Resident Evil Requiem Gameplay Showcase Offers Fans the First Look at New Features

Resident Evil fans have been waiting for more on Resident Evil Requiem, and Capcom’s latest gameplay showcase finally gave a closer look. It just didn’t deliver the surprise many were hoping for. The roughly 12-minute gameplay demo confirmed several existing details, but ended without announcing a playable demo. If Capcom skips one entirely, Requiem would become the first mainline Resident Evil entry in decades to launch without a pre-release demo.

The showcase reiterated the game’s dual-protagonist setup. Players will switch between newcomer Alyssa Ashcroft and returning favorite Leon S. Kennedy as the story unfolds. Both characters can be played in either first-person or third-person view, giving players full control over how the game feels.

In terms of tone and pacing, Alyssa’s sections is much closer to Resident Evil 2 remake and Resident Evil 7. Leon’s gameplay, meanwhile, clearly takes cues from the 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake. A few new mechanics were also confirmed. Alyssa can extract blood from defeated enemies and use it as a crafting material. Leon carries a hatchet that can be sharpened at will, removing the need for merchant repairs.

Zombies are getting a small update, too. Enemies retain traces of their humanity, affecting their behavior. Some may remain distracted by routine actions, creating opportunities for stealth rather than combat. Outside of a light story tease involving Leon and the Elpis virus, Capcom kept most cards close. For now, Requiem looks familiar, polished, and carefully restrained. Not to forget, Resident Evil Requiem releases on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
