While Sony never directly mentions the PlayStation 6, the patent drawings use a console resembling the PS5, leading to speculation that the technology is being explored for the company’s next-generation hardware.

Speaking of the patent itself, the design revolves around an improved heat pipe layout that works alongside the heat sink and heat transfer components. According to the filing, the revised structure is designed to maintain better cooling performance when the device is placed either vertically or horizontally. That could help address overheating concerns that some PS5 owners have experienced over the years, although the issue hasn’t affected every console.
