Chrome might soon read the text from PDF images

Sometimes, PDF files contain images instead of actual text. Furthermore, it takes a while to convert the text from an image. In addition, you need to use third-party applications. Unfortunately, they don’t deliver the best results most of the time. However, Google Chrome could soon read the text from PDF images.

How do I extract text from a PDF image in Chrome?

Chrome might soon be able to read the text from PDF images using an optical character recognition (OCR) tool. In addition, according to Chrome Unboxed, a change for the Chrome PDF reader is already available in the Chromium Repositories.

Furthermore, Google already uses OCR technologies in some of its features. After all, you can read and copy the text from snaps. Also, if you didn’t know, you can use the OCR in Google Translate to get a live translation of a text you are looking at. So, you can use it instead of another application, and it’s free. On top of that, Google Chrome could use the OCR technology to allow us to discover PDF image files faster while searching.

Unfortunately, PdfSearchify won’t be available for most PDFs yet. After all, some PDFs contain a lot of text disguised as images. However, Chrome might implement the feature soon. So, we might use Google Chrome to read at least small PDF images soon enough.

In a nutshell, we can’t wait to use Google Chrome to read PDF images. After all, PdfSearchify will save us time. Also, it would be great to reduce the number of untrusted third-party apps for security reasons. In addition, the OCR technologies from Google could eliminate the commonly encountered text errors the other programs generate.
