You can continue working on your documents on your phone on your PC

Microsoft released the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27788 to the Canary Channel with some exciting additions to the OS. One of the most interesting changes is that you can pick up where you’ve left off on PC after you’ve been working on an Office file on your Android or iOS smartphone.

How does the new OneDrive resume feature works?

With this feature, you will get a notification asking you if you want to pick up where you left off editing a OneDrive file like a Word doc that you last viewed or edited on your phone within a 5-minute time window preceding unlocking your PC.

So, let’s say you started to work on an urgent document on your phone on your way to work. When you reach your office or a desk where you can set up your laptop and you open your PC, you will get a notification prompting you pick up where you left off with that document.

If you click on the notification, the Microsoft 365 Copilot app will start and you will be able to continue editing that document.

There are some conditions to make this work. You have to sign into OneDrive on your phone with a Microsoft account and use the same Microsoft account to log into your PC. Also, bear in mind that the new feature doesn’t work with a work and school account.

At the same time, according to Microsoft’s paper, the feature supports Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, OneNote notebooks/pages, and PDFs. Another condition is that you must keep the OneDrive file open on your phone when the PC is locked, and you should be logged into OneDrive in your browser on the PC. If all these planets are aligned, you will get the notification within 5 minutes after starting using the PC.

It looks a bit complicated, but if you manage to do it once, you will be able to use this feature regularly. Let’s just hope that when this feature is implemented in the stable version it will be a bit easier to use.

If you’re a musician, Microsoft also updated the MIDI feature on this latest Windows 11 insider update. We also remind you that in April, Microsoft will enhance OneDrive with AI agents. Let’s talk about this new update on the comments section below.
