Starfield PlayStation

Starfield is reportedly coming to PlayStation, as many tech publications released the news over the weekend, claiming that Microsoft will release the title to the console sometime later this year.

While there are no official statements from the Redmond-based tech giant, Microsoft has been working on this release for quite a while, allegedly, and along with Starfield, a plethora of other games might be ported to PlayStation, as well, including titles such as Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, and even Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

This is definitely an interesting turn of events, considering Starfield was released in 2023 as a Microsoft exclusive, meaning the game is only available on Xbox X/S consoles, and Windows devices.

Touted as one of the biggest Xbox titles in years, Starfield amplified the competition between Xbox and PlayStation, and many PlayStation gamers considered and purchased an Xbox just for the possibility of playing the game.

However, the news of Starfield coming to PlayStation might change everything about the console competition, and not in a good way.

Starfield on PlayStation: What does this mean for Xbox users?

Even though Starfield is quite popular among Xbox users, with millions of players rushing to play it in the first days after its release, the Redmond-based tech giant might want to expand its popularity beyond the confines of the Xbox’s audience.

However, many Xbox lovers feel betrayed by Microsoft’s decision to release Starfield on PlayStation, with many stating that owning an Xbox now feels useless, especially after buying one to play this game.

Releasing Starfield on PlayStation means Xbox users won’t have to pay a monthly Game Pass subscription to have access to it when they can buy it once, and play it on PlayStation. Many users believe the move could result in the end of Xbox, as we know it. Starfield PlayStation

On the other hand, other Xbox users agree that this could be a good move for Microsoft, as Xbox games will not only be introduced to a wider audience but also encourage accessibility and the chance to have options to choose from a variety of platforms.

Can this mean we could see many PlayStation titles coming to Xbox, as well? Well, this question is tricky. Reports have already stated that more Xbox games will be ported to PlayStation, but we don’t know if the vice-versa is possible.

However, just recently, a former PlayStation-exclusive, MLB series, just announced its latest title, MLB The Show 24, will be released on Xbox, so there are good chances the console exclusivity might soon come to an end.

But this could also hurt Xbox: even though Game Pass is quite popular right now, paying for just one subscription is better than paying for two, and if users have the option to play former Xbox exclusives on PlayStation, then they’re going to do it.

So, whatever Microsoft decides (we still need them to confirm the rumors), the company will have to be careful about it, as it could lose a big chunk of its fanbase, and community.

What do you think about this? Would you play Starfield on PlayStation?
