The Steam Frame just got an early hands-on reveal, and Valve probably did not plan it this way. Linus Media Group’s ShortCircuit channel accidentally published a first impressions video before Valve’s embargo expired. The video has since been removed, but copies and clips are already circulating online.

Steam Frame gets an early hands-on look

The video reportedly captured the team’s first 30 minutes with Valve’s upcoming VR headset. It showed the Steam Frame’s packaging, setup process, fit, and range testing. This gives us a much closer look at the headset before Valve officially allows coverage. However, one important detail remains missing from the leaked footage.

The Steam Frame’s final price is still unknown. Valve has yet to announce how much the headset will cost. Interestingly, the video did reveal pricing for one accessory. The Ergonomics Accessories Kit will reportedly cost $60 when purchased separately.

The kit includes an additional headset strap and straps for the controllers. That could give buyers another option for improving the headset’s fit during longer VR sessions.

Steam Frame controllers bring a notable change

The leaked video also reveals that Steam Frame controllers use replaceable batteries. That differs from the built-in rechargeable batteries found inside the Valve Index controllers. Valve has also been steadily preparing the Steam Frame for launch. The company recently updated Steam backend packages and shipped a stable SteamVR update.

An insider previously suggested September 14 as a possible release date. That date is now here, although Valve has not officially confirmed it. For now, the accidental ShortCircuit upload has given VR fans an early glimpse. The bigger reveal, including pricing and official availability, still rests with Valve.
