Valve may be preparing another step toward the rumored Steam Machine launch. New backend changes spotted on Steam suggest the company is now working on the device’s first-run setup experience.

According to known Valve dataminer and insider Brad Lynch, Valve recently added a “Steam Machine Welcome Tour” to the Steam backend. The backend reportedly also includes related setup assets and onboarding files.

Steam Machine welcome assets appear online

The newly discovered assets reportedly contain welcome images and setup-related files that users may see when turning on the Steam Machine for the first time.

A Welcome Tour usually appears during the initial device setup process. Because of that, many users believe these files are more than simple placeholders or internal tests.

The update does not confirm a launch date, hardware specifications, or pricing. Valve also has not officially announced the device yet.

Still, backend additions tied to onboarding and setup often appear late in the development process, making this discovery more interesting for Steam hardware fans.

Similar pattern appeared before the new Steam Controller

Some users also pointed out that Valve followed a similar pattern with the recently leaked Steam Controller refresh.

Backend assets for the controller reportedly appeared several weeks before Valve officially confirmed pricing and release details. That history makes the latest Steam Machine discovery feel more significant.

Valve has not commented publicly on the backend changes.

Pricing may worry some buyers

Even if Steam Machine launches soon, pricing could become a major talking point.

Valve recently increased prices across the Steam Deck lineup in several regions. The Steam Machine is also expected to cost more than the Steam Deck, mainly because it may feature more powerful hardware.

At the moment, there are still no confirmed details regarding hardware performance, storage configurations, or launch regions.

The latest backend findings also arrived shortly after a Steam Machine reference appeared in the Vulkan Conformance Database.

That earlier discovery already sparked speculation that Valve was preparing new hardware announcements behind the scenes.

Combined with the new Welcome Tour assets, the signs now suggest Valve could be moving closer to a public reveal.
