Valve just dropped SteamOS 3.7.8, and it’s a pretty big update. This update doesn’t just improve the Steam Deck—it expands SteamOS beyond Valve’s own hardware. For the first time, there’s official support for devices like Lenovo’s Legion Go S and the Asus ROG Ally series.

The update includes a proper recovery image that works on other AMD handhelds. Before this, users had to rely on workarounds or community-built alternatives. Now, Valve offers instructions to help you get SteamOS running on these Windows-based devices. The company mentions, “Support for all devices that is not officially ‘Powered by SteamOS’ is not final.

Even if you’re not switching hardware, the SteamOS 3.7.8 update brings important changes to the Steam Deck. You can finally use Bluetooth microphones in desktop mode through HFP/HSP profiles. The LCD model now supports wake-up through Bluetooth controllers, a feature previously limited to OLED.

With the new SteamOS 3.7.8 update, New power management tools let you cap charging at 80 percent, control AMD P-state settings, and fine-tune refresh rate behavior. It also comes with newer Arch Linux components, updated Mesa drivers, and the latest version of the KDE Plasma desktop.

Valve has also updated its FAQs:

We’re currently working with select partners on officially licensed Powered by SteamOS devices. Please reach out to us at [email protected] for more information about licensing SteamOS for your device.
