In the race for popular web browsers, it’s safe to say that Microsoft is falling behind Google Chrome. After all, despite breaking through with Bing AI chatbot, the built-in Edge browser is plagued by a news feed that no one even looks at. In the long run, it takes away its simplicity and drives people even further.

Another case is that some users reported that their Edge browser has been opened automatically despite having another browser as default. One user on Reddit complains that their Edge keeps opening pages they open on Firefox, despite the latter being the default.

When some Windows update is implied, sometimes, it could automatically revert your default browser setting back to Edge. No wonder why some people hate it.

If you could relate to this situation, this article is for you. We’ll be talking about how to permanently use a third-party app called MSEdgeRedirect. As described, it’s a tool that provides resiliency against future changes and passes the command line arguments of Edge processes into your default browser.

How to stop Edge from opening in Firefox

1. Download MSEdgeRedirect from Github. Choose the Stable version.

2. After the download is completed, double-click on the app to install it.

3. Choose Active mode, then Next.

4. Toggle these options, then click Install. In this case, we want to use Google as our default.

5. Click Finish then restart your browser.

Some people also reported that the news feed on Edge is quite annoying. We’ve previously covered simple tips to turn it off, as well as other promoted links on Edge’s homepage.
