A new Surface Pro 4 refresh has finally been confirmed by the tech giant.
Revenue decline due to lack of products
A few days ago, Microsoft released a new Surface device, the latest in its Surface line called the Surface Laptop. While it received mixed reviews from users online, it nevertheless comes at a vital point for the company. Just last week, Microsoft confirmed a 26% decline in revenue for its Surface line due to a lack of new products for its Surface Pro and Surface Book lines.
Everybody expected Microsoft would introduce updates to the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book back at the Spring event in April, but that didn’t happen. Instead, Microsoft is now expected to deliver updates to the Surface Pro and to the Surface Book lines sometime later during this year.
During an interview with Bloomberg Technology, CVP of Microsoft’s Windows and Devices groupYusuf Mehdi confirmed a possible update for the Surface Pro 4 soon:
“We are in Surface to create new categories of computing, and you see that with the Surface Book, Surface Studio, and even the original Surface Pro. And then what we want to do is that we want to grow the overall Windows ecosystem with HP, Dell, Lenovo. If you look at the last year, we’ve grown share in large parts because of the pioneering work in Surface. This last year it’s true we’ve seen more price competition from OEMs that have kind of impacted [Surface’s revenue]. The Surface Laptop is new today, and you might expect to see an update to Surface Pro 4 coming soon”, Mehdi explained.
Microsoft Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 are essential for the company’s future
Microsoft’s upcoming Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 will be crucial for the company and will be quite interesting to see what Microsoft plans on doing to set its new devices apart from its competitors.
