The New 'Notebooks' Feature Turns Gemini Into a Project Hub
Google is rolling out a new feature in Gemini that could change how users manage ongoing AI projects. The company has introduced “notebooks,” a system designed to organize chats, files, and research in one place. The update builds on last year’s integration with NotebookLM, but this time, Google is pushing for a more structured workflow inside Gemini itself.
Gemini notebooks bring structure to AI workflows
Notebooks act like personal knowledge hubs inside the Gemini app. Users can group chats around a topic, add documents or PDFs, and even move older conversations into a dedicated space. Gemini then uses these selected sources, along with web search, to generate more context-aware responses.
Rather than scattered prompts and chats, everything now sits in one organized environment. Users can also add custom instructions, giving Gemini better direction when working on long-running projects like study material or research tasks.
One of the standout feature is the sync with NotebookLM. Any notebook created in Gemini carries over, allowing access to features like video overviews and infographics. For example, users could upload notes in NotebookLM, then switch to Gemini to generate summaries or outlines using the same material.
For now, notebooks in Gemini is rolling out to Google AI Ultra, Pro, and Plus users on the web. Moreover, Google says that mobile and wider availability expected in the coming weeks.
