PC Gaming made more money in 2023 than in 2022, thanks to multiple factors such as the success of high-rated video games like Baldur’s Gate III and cross-platform play. According to data from Newzoo, 2023 was the recovery year for the gaming industry because profits went back to normal.

PC Gaming had a significant increase in profits

Traditional PC Gaming recovered the most and had the biggest increase in revenue. The platform’s game sales, microtransactions, and other digital purchases increased by 8.4% in 2023 compared to 2022. The sector that suffered the most was mobile gaming because the profits dropped by 2%. Meanwhile, consoles almost didn’t change because they only had a 0.3% rise.

In 2023, PC Gaming had a revenue of $39 billion, but compared to mobile and console gaming, it is significantly lower. Mobile Gaming had a revenue of $89.9 billion, while consoles had $52.4 billion.

Publishes focus more on PCs

The revenue of PC Gaming also increased because game developers started implementing cross-platform strategies. For example, you can play games like Warframe on PC, PS, and Xbox. Not only that, but you can use the same account on all platforms, and you will have your items and characters. Also, some games are not available on all consoles. For instance, you can’t play Palworld on PS.

Consoles are becoming similar to mini-PCs. They now support keyboards, mods, and crossplay. On top of that, Microsoft and Sony are not selling as many console exclusives as they used to, and publishers focus more on PCs. Also, the era of AI PCs is here, and AI technologies can improve gaming performance and user experience.

According to Kotaku, gamers are less likely to invest in newer consoles because they play older games like Grand Theft Auto V, Counter-Strike 2, Roblox, and Fortnite. Also, cloud streaming became more popular because it is an affordable way to play newer games with high requirements.

Ultimately, PC Gaming could grow in the upcoming years, and we might see more games from Microsoft and Sony releasing their big games on PCs. Helldivers 2 proves that game sales can increase significantly on PC because gamers play it more on Steam than on PS5.
