The Chinese Mythic creatures are incredibly eerie.

As you might already know (especially if you are as excited as we are), the first expansion of Age of Mythology: Retold, Immortal Pillars, based on Chinese mythology, is set to be released on March 4th. The team behind the game has shared some absolutely gorgeous artwork and designs for the new mythic creatures.
Touted as the Four Perils of the Immortal Pillars, the blog post introduces Qiongqi, Taotie, Taowu, and Hundun, some of the most visually appealing creatures I’ve seen in the game.
Qiongqi, for example, is a horned lion with wings. Like many mythic creatures from the game, it can be upgraded. The team says it’s one of the strongest Chinese myth units in all Age of Mythology: Retold—Immortal Pillars, and it’ll be possible to recruit it in the Classical Age.
Taotie, available in the Heroic Age, is as dangerous as a Greek Hydra. Its design resembles a Zerg creature from the Starcraft franchise, with large horns and a splinted jaw.
Taowu, another creature that can be recruited once players reach the Heroic Age, is a sort of chimera with a human-like face, a long tail, and covered in fur. It will act like a Scarab or Behemoth, meaning it’s good at destroying buildings.
Finally, Hundun, a being that can be recruited once you reach Mythic Age, is the most peculiar mythic creature in the Age of Mythology: Retold. It is a faceless creature with six legs and four wings; as you can see below, it is the definition of uncanny. Almost a being, but not quite.
All of these creatures have exceptional abilities, but we won’t spoil them for you just yet. After all, March is almost upon us.
If you have the Premium Edition of the game, you won’t have to purchase the expansion pack separately.
