The Witcher 4 Finally Gets Official Release Date Update, CD Projekt Red is Targeting 2028

The Witcher 4 finally has a release window, but fans expecting it at Gamescom may want to lower their expectations. CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the highly anticipated RPG is targeting 2028, while also making clear that the game will not appear at this year’s event.

CD Projekt Red finally puts 2028 on The Witcher 4

CD Projekt Red joint CEO Michał Nowakowski revealed the 2028 target ahead of Gamescom. However, the studio has not provided a specific month, quarter, or launch date yet. That makes this the first official release window for The Witcher 4. Earlier statements had only ruled out a 2026 launch and left the following years open.

Speaking of the game, Nowakowski said, The Witcher 4 is ““our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date.” Nowakowski acknowledged the wait and asked fans to give the team more time. “Let the team cook. It will be worth the wait,” he said.

The timing is interesting because Gamescom 2026 kicks off this week. The event runs from August 26 through August 30, with Opening Night Live scheduled for August 25.

The Witcher 3 expansion will fill the gap

While The Witcher 4 stays away from Gamescom, another major Witcher project will take the spotlight. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past will appear during Opening Night Live. A first-ever public showcase is also planned at Gamescom starting August 26.

The expansion is scheduled for 2027 across PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. It brings Geralt back for another adventure before Ciri takes over the new saga. That gives CD Projekt Red another major Witcher release before the fourth game releases.
