The Witcher’s Project Sirius Faces Fresh Round of Layoffs

Layoffs have been rampant across the gaming industry. Following Xbox’s mass job cuts and studio shakeups, another project has now taken a hit. We’re talking about Project Sirius, CD Projekt Red’s multiplayer Witcher project, which has reportedly lost even developers in a fresh round of layoffs.

The Witcher’s Project Sirius loses 18 developers

Kotaku, which first reported on the matter, notes that nine employees were let go from the Project Sirius team (via IGN). Another nine developers are reportedly moving to different projects within CD Projekt Red. The report suggests that the changes are part of a broader shift in the project’s development strategy. The studio also confirmed the cuts to the news outlet.

CD Projekt Red said 83 people were previously working on Sirius. The team now stands at 65 developers. The company said it adjusted the team size to reflect the project’s current development needs.

Surprisingly, the latest changes come after reports that development had recently been progressing better. CD Projekt Red reportedly also brought in Destiny 2 writer Kwan Perng as the project’s lead writer. That makes the latest layoffs interesting.

As of now, there is still no official release date attached to Project Sirius. CD Projekt Red has also revealed very little about its actual gameplay. Speaking of layoffs, id Software veteran has recently called out Microsoft following mass layoffs and said that making another Doom is now impossible.
