According to Wccftech, Thermal Grizzly is now offering all three delidded Ryzen 9000X3D processors through its official website, including the newly launched Ryzen 7 9850X3D.

Delidded Ryzen 7 9850X3D Hits the Store

The company introduced the delidded 9850X3D roughly three weeks after AMD’s original retail launch. This move follows Thermal Grizzly’s earlier release of a delidded Ryzen 7 9800X3D in Q1 2025.

The Ryzen 7 9850X3D currently stands as AMD’s fastest gaming processor, succeeding the 9800X3D. It carries similar core specifications but pushes a higher boost clock to deliver additional gaming performance.

The delidded version comes at a significant premium. Thermal Grizzly lists the processor at $876, roughly $350 above its official MSRP.

What Delidding Means for Enthusiasts

Delidding removes the integrated heat spreader and exposes the CCD and IOD dies. This allows users to install direct-die cooling solutions that can reduce temperatures more effectively than standard configurations.

Lower operating temperatures can help maintain higher sustained boost clocks and provide extra overclocking headroom. However, the process typically voids the original manufacturer’s warranty.

Thermal Grizzly includes its own two-year warranty with these modified chips. The company warns that reinstalling or using the included stock heat spreader on the delidded processor will void that coverage.

A Niche Offering With Added Risk

This product clearly targets enthusiasts and overclockers rather than mainstream gamers. The high price and specialized cooling requirements make it unsuitable for typical plug-and-play systems.

There have also been reports of failures involving both the Ryzen 7 9850X3D and 9800X3D. Similar concerns were previously raised around the 9800X3D, adding uncertainty for buyers considering an already modified processor.

For most users, the standard retail version remains the safer and more practical option. Thermal Grizzly’s delidded lineup instead appeals to those who want maximum thermal performance and are willing to accept the added cost and risk.
