2024 is going to be an exciting year for Microsoft Teams, as the Redmond-based tech giant is going to enhance the recently added Copilot with new capabilities suited for the platform. There is going to be an even greater Microsoft 365 integration with the platform, plus a plethora of new changes, including ones that are not so good.

For instance, in April, Microsoft will retire the ability to open links in the new Teams’ Website tab, something that can greatly disrupt users, especially those who use the platform for work.

However, Microsoft is also adding new features to the platform, with 5 game-changer features coming soon, in February 2024, according to the latest entries in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap.

These features suited for Teams’ meeting organizers, and regular users as well, will have a big impact on the way Teams is used for socializing, working, and branding. Let’s take a look.

5 game-changer features coming to Microsoft Teams in February

Registration Form Updates in Webinars

The webinar registration process can be highly customized, allowing managers and organizers to find out more details about the participants, which could lead to making more informed decisions when planning the next webinars.

Organizers can rearrange the sequence of registration form questions that are presented to attendees during the webinar registration process. The questions available for reordering include address, city, state, zip/post code, country/region, job title organization, industry, and custom questions.

Hide general channel

One of the most exciting features to come to Teams, this one will allow users to hide the general channels, which could improve their focus on the relevant channels to them, instead.

Alike other channels, now you will be able to hide general channels in your teams, helping you focus on the channels that matter most to you.

Microsoft

Automatic Targeting based on roles for Frontline

Frontline teams can notify the right set of colleagues on channel posts (e.g. notify colleagues in specific role or department)

Microsoft

Preset Organizational Backgrounds (Premium)

IT admins, and managers can now preset backgrounds to all participants in Teams meetings. This could be a great tool for marketing purposes, as organizations can brand their meetings with logo backgrounds.

When enabled, a user will have a preset background defined by the IT admin without the ability to change the background

All of these features are scheduled to be rolled out in February 2024.
