threads offers too much

Instagram Threads is definitely the most popular app in the world right now. Over 100 million users sign up in the first 5 days of its release. The app is so popular, Windows users learned how to download it and use it on Windows 11. Even scammers are making a name for themselves there (well, not theirs, to be exact).

However, the app is not without controversy. For now, you can’t delete your Threads account without deleting your Instagram account. Although, Meta is working on a feature that will allow you to do it. And it seems the app asks for too much information, from everywhere.

This request has made it impossible for Threads to be released in Europe, for now. The European legislation doesn’t allow it. But other than that, Threads is bound to share the market with Twitter, and some even agree that it might surpass it.

But there are other people who think Threads is offering a bit too much. And it’s everywhere for everyone, without a clear target, and a clear audience. And this might be the biggest downfall of this app, for now, at least.

How is Threads offering too much?

According to the experts, Threads’ biggest problem right now is that the app is trying to offer too much for everybody. And it doesn’t really take into account its text-based form. When you first sign-up, you don’t have a curated news feed, and chances are you’ll get lost and bored pretty fast.

Everybody shares statuses, but they get mixed. You’re viewing personal statuses, but also very professional ones. You’re also going to see a lot of reels, and video links. And your feed will become very busy with all sorts of content, that you won’t which one to choose from.

The problem here is – Threads is a text-based everything for everyone. There are friends posting personal updates or funny memes. Creators are posting relevant content related to their topics. There are also creators and prominent people posting fun posts / updates to connect with their followers. Throw in some reels and links to videos in the mix, and this is a complete hotch-potch of content.

If you have an idea about why you use the social media platform that you use, for example you use LinkedIn for professional networks, Facebook for family and friends, Instagram for personal networks and so on; you’ll soon find out that won’t know why you’re using Threads.threads offers too much

However, Threads is still in its infancy. It has been just a week since it was released, so there a lot of way to make it better.

How can Threads become better?

According to the experts, Threads should focus on taking the best parts of Twitter and make them better.

For example, Twitter is still a very useful social network, but its aim is on public persons, and verified content is much more promoted. If you’re a regular user, you have no chance to make your voice heard. However, the discourse is not censored, and Twitter supports the its democratization.

Threads should take the this idea and expand it everyone, regardless if they have a verified account or not. Or if they are a public person or not.

Threads should also follow the model of curated feed, such as Twitter’s and TikTok’s For You page. And if the community is important, then Threads should take a look at Reddit, and borrow the elements that work there into the platform.

According to the specialists, Reddit excels in bringing strangers together in subreddits, more than any other social media platform, so Threads should borrow those elements and implement it into the platform.

This is how Threads would become better. By taking the best parts of the other platform and address their limitations, otherwise, Threads itself will become limited.
