USPS Schedule a Pickup Not Working? 11 Fixes

Updated July 15, 2026

When USPS Schedule a Pickup is not working, first look for an official service-unavailable message. When that message appears, the failure is on the USPS scheduling system rather than your address or browser.

When the service is available but the form will not submit, check the address format, remove special characters from instructions, select an eligible package service, enter valid weight information and choose an available Monday-through-Saturday date.

Current status note: During research on July 15, 2026, the official USPS Schedule a Pickup page displayed: “Sorry, this service is currently unavailable. Please try again later.” That message may be temporary, so confirm the page’s current condition before publishing or relying on this status note.

1. Stop when the official page says the service is unavailable

Do not repeatedly re-enter the entire form. A USPS service-unavailable notice indicates that the scheduling tool itself is not processing requests normally.

Wait and retry later. Before closing the page, save labels or items in your cart because the pickup workflow may warn that continuing can remove cart contents.

When the shipment is urgent, take it to an eligible postal location rather than assuming an unconfirmed pickup has been scheduled.

2. Try a private browser window

Open the USPS pickup page in a private or incognito window.

This bypasses older cookies and cached scripts that can cause:

  • A blank form
  • Repeated sign-in prompts
  • A disabled button
  • Address-validation loops
  • An expired session

When private browsing works, clear only USPS site data in the ordinary browser.

3. Use another supported browser or device

Try a current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari.

Temporarily disable extensions that alter forms, block scripts or automatically fill addresses. Then test the page on another phone or computer.

Switching between Wi-Fi and cellular data can also help determine whether a network filter is interfering.

4. Sign out and retry as a fresh session

A corrupted USPS.com account session can prevent the pickup tool from completing.

Sign out, close the browser and return to the form. Depending on the service selected, you may be able to schedule a regular pickup without using saved account information.

A USPS account is required for certain premium or recurring options.

5. Enter a USPS-recognized address

Use the complete delivery address, including:

  • Street number
  • Street name
  • Apartment or suite
  • City
  • State
  • ZIP Code
  • Urbanization code for applicable Puerto Rico addresses

When USPS suggests a standardized version, select that version.

The pickup form checks whether the submitted address is eligible. When USPS reports that an address is not eligible, the shipment has to be taken to an appropriate postal location.

Do not substitute a neighboring address unless the packages will actually be available there and you are authorized to use it.

6. Remove special characters from instructions

The additional-instructions field can reject characters such as:

$  &  /  #  *  %

Replace symbols with ordinary words and numbers. For example:

Rejected: Behind gate #2 / next to A/C

Safer: Behind gate 2 next to air conditioner

USPS’s current form explicitly tells users to remove certain special characters from pickup instructions.

7. Select an available date

Regular and recurring pickup dates are generally available Monday through Saturday. Recurring pickups are not available on Sundays or postal holidays.

If a calendar date cannot be selected:

  • Deselect the current highlighted date.
  • Choose another available date.
  • Confirm that it is not Sunday or a holiday.
  • Refresh the page after a long inactive session.
  • Re-enter the pickup if the session expired.

USPS lists Monday through Saturday scheduling and excludes Sundays and holidays from recurring pickups.

8. Choose a qualifying package type

The USPS form currently lists qualifying pickup categories including:

  • Priority Mail Express
  • Eligible returns
  • Priority Mail
  • Eligible international services
  • USPS Ground Advantage

A shipment entered only as Other generally needs at least one qualifying premium-service package for free pickup. Otherwise, a paid pickup option or another drop-off method may be required.

Make sure the service selected on the pickup form matches the postage label.

9. Correct the package weight and dimensions

The form calculates average weight by dividing total weight by the number of packages. That average must remain under the displayed per-item limit.

USPS states that the pickup service cannot accept items over 70 pounds or 130 inches in combined length and girth. Mailpieces weighing more than 10 ounces with only stamps as postage are not eligible for pickup.

Check that:

  • Package count is correct.
  • Total weight is entered in pounds.
  • The average does not imply an overweight item.
  • Postage is sufficient.
  • The hazardous-material question is answered.

10. Confirm that scheduling actually completed

A completed pickup request should produce a confirmation page, number or message.

Save:

  • Confirmation number
  • Scheduled date
  • Pickup location
  • Package count
  • Email address or phone number used

Do not assume the request succeeded because the final button was pressed. When the page freezes, first check email and the Modify or Cancel area before submitting another request.

11. Modify, cancel or report a missed pickup

To edit an existing request, use the confirmation number and the same email address or phone number supplied during scheduling.

USPS allows existing pickups to be looked up for modification or cancellation using those details.

When the carrier misses a confirmed pickup:

  1. Verify the scheduled date.
  2. Confirm the package was in the selected location.
  3. Check that the location was safely accessible.
  4. Keep the confirmation number.
  5. Submit a Package Pickup inquiry or contact the serving Post Office.
  6. Reschedule only after checking that the first request is no longer active.

Why does USPS say my address is not eligible?

Possible reasons include:

  • The address is outside a supported delivery route.
  • The address was entered in a nonstandard format.
  • An apartment, suite or urbanization code is missing.
  • The location receives mail through another arrangement.
  • Pickup is not offered at that specific address.

Select a USPS-suggested address when available. If the page still declares it ineligible, changing browsers will not override the service restriction.

Why is the Schedule a Pickup button disabled?

Review every required field, especially:

  • Address eligibility
  • Dog-at-address question
  • Package location
  • Date
  • Package type
  • Quantity
  • Total weight
  • Hazardous-material declaration
  • Terms and conditions

Also remove prohibited characters from the instructions field.
