Valve Secures New iFixit Steam Deck Battery Supply
Steam Deck LCD replacement batteries will remain available through iFixit after Valve secured a new supplier for the original handheld. New stock could arrive as early as next week.
The confirmation follows reports that Valve planned to phase out replacement batteries and screens for the LCD version of the Steam Deck.
Valve Finds a New Steam Deck Battery Supplier
Valve connected iFixit with a new supplier that can provide replacement batteries for the original Steam Deck LCD.
The supplier will use the same OEM batteries sourced through Valve’s manufacturing partners. As a result, the upcoming stock should match the batteries previously offered through the official repair program.
iFixit has already started working to restore availability, with replacement batteries potentially returning to stock next week.
The decision gives Steam Deck LCD owners an official repair option as older units begin to experience reduced battery capacity and other age-related issues.
Valve Reverses the Reported Battery Discontinuation
Earlier reports claimed that iFixit employees had received notice that Valve would stop producing replacement batteries and displays for the Steam Deck LCD.
Valve’s latest statement confirms that it no longer plans to discontinue the battery. However, the company has not made the same long-term commitment for replacement LCD screens.
The future availability of other components for the original Steam Deck also remains unclear.
Valve released the Steam Deck LCD in February 2022 before introducing the Steam Deck OLED in November 2023. Continued access to official parts will become increasingly important as early units move beyond their warranty periods.
iFixit Plans Aftermarket Steam Deck Batteries
iFixit also plans to source compatible aftermarket batteries if Valve eventually stops producing OEM replacements.
This approach could help keep the original Steam Deck repairable even after official battery production ends. It would also give owners an alternative to replacing the entire handheld when its battery performance declines.
Battery degradation remains one of the most common long-term problems for portable electronics. A steady supply of replacement batteries could therefore extend the usable life of the Steam Deck LCD for several more years.
Valve has also revealed its Steam sale and festival schedule through June 2027. The company recently expanded the Steam Verified program with new ratings for Steam Machine and SteamOS devices, while a planned BIOS update will address temperature warnings on Steam Machine hardware.
