VS Code 1.145 Lets You Run Claude, Codex, and Copilot in the Same Agent Session
Microsoft has rolled out Visual Studio Code 1.145 update gives AI agents considerably more room to work. Developers can now preview remote apps, combine different AI agents, and schedule recurring tasks with custom cron expressions. There is also a new mini-game featuring Blobby.
VS Code 1.145 makes remote AI agent sessions more useful
The ability to preview applications directly from remote agent sessions. When an agent starts a development server on a remote machine, developers can open the app inside VS Code’s Agents window. This makes it easier to inspect changes, test applications, and provide feedback without switching environments. Remote canvases are also supported in Preview, although users must enable the required settings.
Interestingly, VS Code now lets developers mix different agent harnesses within nested sessions. This means a Copilot session can ask Claude or Codex to review its work without starting an entirely separate conversation. Each nested session retains its own model, agent, and permission settings. The feature remains in Preview and requires an experimental setting.
Custom automation and more control over Copilot
Automation gets another useful upgrade in this release. Developers can now enter five-field cron expressions for local automations instead of relying on preset schedules. They can also select workspace-specific custom agents when creating or editing these tasks. However, custom cron schedules are not available for cloud automations.
Microsoft has also introduced three chat viewing modes. Conversation, Verbose, and Compact let developers choose how much agent reasoning and tool activity appears. Elsewhere, VS Code now supports showing selected files inside excluded folders. MCP server management also receives enterprise improvements, giving organization-managed allowlists higher priority.
And for anyone needing a break, Blobby now has an experimental platform-jumping game. Users can enter /vscode-pet in chat to access the new feature. VS Code 1.145 is available now through the stable release channel. Existing users can select Check for Updates to install it.
