Where are Excel AutoSave files stored in Windows 10?

1. UnsavedFiles directory

  1. Press Windows key + R and type %localappdata%.
    localappdata run window
  2. Navigate to Microsoft\Office\UnsavedFiles
  3. In there, you should find all your autosave files.

2. Check the location in Excel

  1. Open Excel options.
  2. Next, go to the Save tab. Locate AutoRecover file location.

  3. Navigate to that location to recover your files.

By default, the location should be C:\Users\Your_username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\

Now that you know where are Excel recovery files stored, you will never lose your files again. To prevent this from happening, be sure to turn on AutoSave in Excel.
