KB5044273 and KB5045594 cause app launch failure

Windows 10 continues to have a lot of buggy updates even though in less than a year, it will be obsolete. The KB5044273 patch was launched in the October Patch Tuesday, but even now, users have problems installing it. KB5045594 was released at the end of October and it seems that it causes the same problems.

Some users who managed to install the patches ran into other issues because they found out they can’t launch certain apps such as Quick Assist, Microsoft Teams, Windows Narrator, and more.

Microsoft managed to fix the problem with KB5045594 by using the using Known Issue Rollback (KIR). So, if you somehow installed it, got to Windows Update > Update History > Uninstall updates and uninstall it. If not, the update will disappear from the list of updates.

With Windows 10 KB5044273, things are a bit complicated because Microsoft didn’t issue any rollbacks. Some users who managed to install it had problems running auto starts for Wallpaper Engine and TranslucentTB.

Microsoft also confirmed that after you install KB5044273, you may experience issues with Narrator, Teams and Quick Assist crashes. In another twist, the patch may also cause a black screen when logging into Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD).

The Redmond giant is working for some patches which will hopefully will be included in the Windows 10 November 2024 Patch Tuesday.
