Windows 10 KB5120249 August 2026 Patch Tuesday Update Out Now

In addition to Windows 11 August 2026 Patch Tuesday Updates, Microsoft has also released Windows 10 KB5120249 for users enrolled to ESU program. The update brings Windows 10 OS Builds 19045.7663 and 19044.7663. It focuses on fixing a frustrating File History backup problem while expanding Secure Boot certificate coverage.

File History gets an important fix with the KB5120249 August 2026 Patch Tuesday Update

This security update fixes File History backups to SMB network shares. Before this update, automatic backups could fail with an incorrect “invalid credentials” error. When triggered, scheduled backups would not copy any files to the network location. This should make scheduled File History backups more reliable for affected Windows 10 systems.

Secure Boot certificate rollout expands with the latest security update

Microsoft is also continuing its expansive Secure Boot certificate transition. KB5120249 adds more high-confidence device targeting data. This increases the number of eligible PCs that can automatically receive the new Secure Boot certificates. Moreover, certificate deployment will continue through Windows Update across supported PCs and non-managed business devices over the coming months.
