windows 11 22h2 optional updates

It’s the second Tuesday of the month, which means Patch Tuesday is here with a lot of update packages for Windows 10, and Windows 11. The tradition, which Microsoft recently celebrated with a lengthy blog post, brings important updates to the stable channel of Windows, and this time is no exception.

With this Patch Tuesday, the Redmond-based tech giant announced that Windows 11 22H2 will no longer receive optional non-security update packages starting February 27, 2024. This means 22H2 will get its final optional non-security package update in February, and then it’s over.

Windows 11 22H2 will only get the cumulative monthly security updates moving forward, which are necessary for this Windows version to properly function and be safe against cybersecurity attacks.

IMPORTANT
After February 27, 2024, there will no longer be optional, non-security preview releases for Windows 11, version 22H2. Only cumulative monthly security updates will continue for the supported editions of Windows 11, version 22H2.

Usually, these optional, non-security updates would bring changes and improvements to certain apps in Windows 11, without impacting the main experience of using Windows 11.

As their name suggests, the optional updates are not necessary for Windows to work, but they can improve the experience of using certain apps, software, and other specific areas in Windows 11.windows 11 22h2 optional updates

Microsoft ending optional updates for this Windows 11 version means that the Redmond-based tech giant is focusing on other aspects: Windows 11 23H2 was just recently released, and 2024 might be one of the biggest years of the company, with a new Windows version (suggestively called Windows 12) on the horizon.

So, the tech giant might just want to refocus, and put things in perspective. Eventually, Windows 11 22H2 will update to 23H2, sooner or later. It’s worth mentioning the end of support for Windows 11 22H2 will happen on October 8, 2024, according to Microsoft’s plans: new changes and improvements won’t be much of use to anyone.
