Windows 11 26H2 could begin rolling out between late September and October 2026. Microsoft has not confirmed a release date, but the update will likely follow the company’s established annual schedule.

Microsoft typically releases its yearly Windows 11 update during the early fall. Version 23H2 arrived in October 2023, followed by version 24H2 in October 2024 and version 25H2 in late September 2025.

Based on that pattern, Pureinfotech expects Windows 11 26H2 to arrive in late September or early October 2026. Microsoft could adjust the schedule as development continues.

A smaller enablement package upgrade

Windows 11 26H2 should arrive as an enablement package rather than a full operating system upgrade.

Microsoft can install many underlying components through regular monthly cumulative updates. The enablement package then activates those components and changes the displayed Windows version.

Devices running Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2 should complete the upgrade quickly. The installation will likely require one restart and feel similar to a standard cumulative update.

Existing PCs should remain compatible

Microsoft does not appear to be preparing additional hardware requirements specifically for Windows 11 26H2. PCs that already support recent Windows 11 versions should receive the update without a lengthy reinstallation.

The smaller package should also help businesses reduce deployment times across large device fleets. IT teams can test and install the update with less disruption than a traditional feature upgrade.

Microsoft continues changing Windows throughout the year

Windows 11 26H2 probably will not introduce a major redesign. Microsoft now releases many features gradually through monthly updates instead of holding them for one annual launch.

The yearly update can activate existing changes, update the version number, and begin a new support lifecycle. This approach gives users a faster installation while reducing the compatibility risks associated with larger upgrades.
