Microsoft released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 27858 to the Canary Channel on May 16, 2025, and with it came an interesting feature on the taskbar and improvements on the desktop.
With this release, the tech giant has removed the accent-colored backplate for native Windows apps like Snipping Tool or Calclulator. This means that when you drag and drop Snipping Tools from the apps list in the Start menu to the desktop, the icons should be more prominent and easier to see. However, if you already have something on your desktop, you will have to create new shortcuts to make it work.
Up next is good news for all those who love to use emojis to express themselves! Microsoft is adding a new taskbar button, Emoji and more, which makes invoking the emoji panel easier. So, from this build onwards, you don’t have to press Windows + . (Period) buttons every time you want to use emojis; instead, you can find and click this new system tray icon from the taskbar. You can use this icon across all apps and surfaces in Windows.
However, if you don’t want to use this button, you can right-click the Taskbar and select Taskbar settings to disable this feature and access the emojis panel the old-fashioned way.
Microsoft also included other changes and fixes in this release. For a detailed changelog, you can refer to the Windows Insider official blog.
How excited are you to use the Emoji and more button? Tell us in the comments section below; We would love to hear from you.
