Windows 11 Canary Update KB5074168 Releases With WebP Wallpaper Support & Multiple Fixes
Microsoft has just dropped a new Windows 11 Insider update for users in the Canary Channel. The latest release, Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 28020.1495 (KB5074168), is now rolling out and brings a small but notable set of fixes and improvements directed at improving overall system stability.
Speaking of changes, Windows 11 now supports .webp images as desktop backgrounds, which is accessible via Settings > Personalization > Desktop Background. For users who prefer lightweight, modern image formats, this adds a bit more flexibility to desktop customization.
As for the fixes, Microsoft says this build includes a limited set of general fixes, but several address annoying issues reported by Insiders. First up, the Start menu now correctly displays the shutdown warning dialog when other users are still signed in, fixing a truncation issue along the edge of the menu.
Pen users should also see smoother behavior, as a bug causing a black flash while inking with the Snipping Tool has been resolved. Not to forgrt, Microsoft fixed a problem where shutdowns appeared to restart the system on some devices. Settings also received attention, with a fix for Windows Update pages hanging during load, along with a long-standing issue that prevented language features from downloading for English (Australia).
Another important fix addresses rare IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL bugchecks linked to certain smart card readers. Well, there are some known issues to watch out for. Microsoft notes that the desktop watermark currently shows the wrong build number. Additionally, the company is still working on a fix for a File Explorer bug that can cause open windows or tabs to unexpectedly jump back to Desktop or Home.
