Windows 11 Insider Beta (26H1) Build Adds Unicode 17.0 Support
Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Beta Build 28020.3292 for version 26H1, adding Unicode 17.0 support and improvements to text rendering. However, the update also comes with a known issue that may prevent Windows Recall from working on some Copilot+ PCs.
Microsoft is rolling out the changes gradually to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel.
Windows 11 now supports 4,803 new Unicode characters
The update adds text shaping support for Unicode 17.0, which introduces 4,803 new characters and four newly encoded scripts.
These include Beria Erfe, Sidetic, Tai Yo, and Tolong Siki. With the update, Windows 11 can render text more accurately across these writing systems, improving compatibility with applications and documents that use the newly supported characters.
The change primarily benefits users working with multilingual content, although it also expands Windows 11’s overall character support.
Microsoft confirms a Windows Recall issue
Microsoft has also acknowledged a problem affecting Windows Recall on some Copilot+ PCs.
According to the release notes, Recall may disappear or fail to launch after users perform a clean installation of Windows 11 with Build 28020.3292.
The issue specifically affects clean installations, and Microsoft has not reported the same behavior for devices upgrading to the build through Windows Update.
Microsoft says it is working on a fix but has not provided a timeline for resolving the problem.
Other Windows 11 Insider updates
Microsoft is also testing changes in other Windows 11 Insider builds.
For users following Windows 11 25H2 development, the latest Windows 11 Insider Experimental build introduces new phone controls in Quick Settings and a built-in internet speed test.
Meanwhile, a separate Windows 11 Beta build introduces a customizable File Explorer context menu and performance improvements for the Settings app.
