Windows 11 KB5127936 Fixes Remote Desktop Error 0xC000000D
Microsoft has fixed a Windows 11 issue that prevented non-administrator users from establishing Remote Desktop connections when Administrator Protection was enabled.
The problem triggered error 0xC000000D and primarily affected enterprise-managed Remote Desktop hosts running Windows 11 24H2 and later.
According to Microsoft’s Windows release health documentation, the company resolved the issue with the October 28, 2026, preview update KB5127936.
Administrator Protection caused Remote Desktop connection failures
Microsoft acknowledged the issue on October 13, 2026, after releasing September’s optional preview update KB5124010. Subsequent updates could also trigger the problem.
Administrator Protection adds an extra security layer by requiring Windows Hello authentication, such as a PIN or biometric verification, for certain administrative operations.
Microsoft began rolling out the feature in October 2025. Following October 2026’s security update, organizations using Windows security baselines had Administrator Protection enabled by default.
However, the Remote Desktop failures occurred regardless of how administrators enabled the feature.
KB5127936 fixes the Remote Desktop issue
Microsoft confirmed that KB5127936 resolves the connection failures. Later Windows updates also include the fix.
The company recommends installing the latest security updates to address the issue and receive additional improvements.
Organizations waiting for November’s Patch Tuesday updates can temporarily disable Administrator Protection by resetting the User Account Control Type Of Admin Approval Mode policy through Microsoft Intune or Group Policy.
However, disabling Administrator Protection removes an additional security safeguard, so organizations should restore it after installing the fix.
In other news, Microsoft gives Windows 11 a new recovery option, while KB5127936 improves Modern Standby battery management and adds customizable File Explorer context menus.
