Windows 11 Users Report High Memory Usage After Installing KB5072033

Delivery Optimization high ram usage

A new Windows 11 cumulative update, KB5072033, may cause unexpected performance issues for some users, and early reports point to unusually high memory usage in the background.

According to user reports, one of Windows 11’s core system services, Delivery Optimization, can quietly consume a large amount of RAM after the update installs. This service, also known as DoSvc, helps speed up Windows Update and Microsoft Store downloads by allowing PCs to retrieve update files from other users on the local network or the internet.

Delivery Optimization shows signs of a memory leak

Several users who monitored system performance noticed that DoSvc steadily increased its memory consumption over time. Compared to other background services, Delivery Optimization kept using significantly more RAM, which strongly suggests a possible memory leak, as users on Reddit reported.

This behavior can explain why some PCs show higher-than-expected memory usage even when no demanding apps run in the foreground. On systems with limited RAM, the issue may lead to sluggish performance, slower multitasking, or stuttering during normal use.

KB5072033 may enable background services automatically

KB5072033 reportedly turns on certain background services by default, which could amplify the problem. If Delivery Optimization remains active for long periods, the accumulated memory usage becomes more noticeable, especially on laptops and lower-end desktops.

No official fix yet from Microsoft

So far, Microsoft has not published an official acknowledgment or workaround for the Delivery Optimization memory issue linked to KB5072033. There is also no confirmed timeline for a fix.

Until Microsoft addresses the problem, affected users may want to keep an eye on RAM usage through Task Manager or consider limiting Delivery Optimization activity if performance drops become severe.
