Windows 11's First Insider Update of 2026, KB5072046, Brings Copilot-Powered Image Descriptions
Microsoft has just released its first build of 2026 in the Dev and Beta channels of Windows 11 25H2. The latest update, KB5072046, bumps your system to Build 26220.7535, and brings a notable accessibility improvement to Copilot+ PCs. Here, I’m talkimg about the new AI-powered image descriptions in Narrator.
Last year, Microsoft introduced rich image descriptions in Narrator for Copilot+ PCs, allowing blind and low-vision users to hear detailed, AI-generated descriptions of images, charts, and graphs. With this new build, Narrator now works with Copilot on all Windows 11 devices, expanding these capabilities beyond Copilot+ hardware.
Users can describe a specific image by pressing Narrator key + Ctrl + D, or describe the entire screen using Narrator key + Ctrl + S. Copilot opens with the image ready, allowing you to enter a custom prompt and generate tailored descriptions. Microsoft emphasizes that images are only shared when users choose to describe them, keeping full control in the hands of the user. For more detail or follow-up insights, selecting Ask Copilot continues the exploration seamlessly.
This feature, however, is not available in the European Economic Area (EEA). The new build also reflects Microsoft’s ongoing strategy of offering the same builds to both Dev and Beta channels on Windows 11, version 25H2. Insiders in the Dev Channel have a limited window to switch to the Beta Channel if they prefer a slightly more stable experience, so timing matters.
