Windows Recall AMD Intel

Announced at the Microsoft Build 2024, earlier this week, Windows Recall has been touted by the Redmond-based tech giant as a Copilot+ PC exclusive feature, and since these devices are only equipped with the Snapdragon Elite X, for now, it’s safe to assume that temporarily, Recall is a Snapdragon-exclusive feature.

However, tech enthusiasts do what tech enthusiasts always do, and they play out with things until they make it work. Such is the case of Windows Recall, which can already be enabled to work on AMD/Intel-based CPU PCs.

At least this is what tech enthusiast, Albacore claims, who has already managed to enable the feature on on current Arm64 hardware.

Making great progress enabling Recall on current Arm64 hardware, no fancy X Elite in sight!

Should theoretically work on Intel/AMD too, OEMs only received Arm64 specific ML model bundles so there’s not much I can do yet.

Albacore

On X (formerly known as Twitter), the tech enthusiast posted a sample of how Windows Recall could work on AMD and Intel systems. The capability is quite laggy, and slow, but it gets the job done eventually.

As for enabling, we don’t know the technical parts behind it, so if you’re interested in enabling this feature, you’ll have to ask Albacore. You need to be enlisted in the Windows Insider Program, as well.

However, it is interesting: the exclusivity of the Windows Recall on Copilot+ PC has been a safe net for many of those Windows users worried about its privacy issues. But now, it seems the capability can be easily enabled in regular PCs, as well, so this will only add more fire to the existing concerns.

It’s good to remember that the capability is optional, and can be disabled entirely. For now, Windows Recall is not only unpopular because of privacy issues but also because the app is apparently eating a lot of space to keep the recordings locally. You’ll need at least 50 GB of free space in a device that has 256 GB. That’s very much.
