The Windows Server team just announced a first preview build of Windows Server 2019, the latest version of the server OS to be available in the second half of 2018. Windows Server 2019 is built on the foundation of Windows Server 2016, which the company says is the version that saw the fastest adoption ever.

Windows Server 2019 has been designed for hybrid cloud scenarios, with the company saying that “hybrid cloud enables a future-proof, long-term approach.” Project Honolulu, Microsoft’s browser-based solution for server administration will also allow customers to easily integrate Azure services such as Azure Backup.

The next version of the server OS will also bring some new security features, including a native integration of Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection. “This gives customers access to deep kernel and memory sensors, improving performance and anti-tampering, and enabling response actions on server machines,” the company explained.

Windows Defender ATP will be embedded in Windows Server 2019.

The first preview build of Windows Server 2019 is available today for Windows Insiders. Microsoft says that the new server OS will have the same licensing model as Windows Server 2016, and there will be both a Semi-Annual Channel release and Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) release for customers.
