Windows Terminal Update Fixes Sleep Rendering and Gamepad Crashes
Windows Terminal 1.25.2733.0 is now available on the stable channel, bringing major stability, memory, and input fixes backported from the 1.26 preview branch.
Microsoft says the update fixes memory leaks and rendering problems that could appear after a PC resumes from sleep. It also addresses crashes triggered by connected Xbox controllers and other gamepads.
The release includes 194 commits since the previous stable version.
Windows Terminal adds Kitty input protocol support
Windows Terminal now fully supports the Kitty input protocol. Microsoft fixed several related issues involving auto-repeat, dead keys, numpad Enter, and AltGr input.
The update also introduces a settings search experience and a richer actions editor, making it easier to find Terminal options and customize commands and shortcuts.
Users can now restore Terminal windows with or without their previous scrollback history.
Microsoft also added an option for configuring the width of ambiguous Unicode characters. This should improve compatibility with Chinese, Japanese, and Korean console applications.
Windows Terminal 1.25.2733.0 also adds community translations for Ukrainian and Serbian Cyrillic.
Microsoft also improves performance and development requirements
On newer Windows versions, Terminal now uses faster APIs to query the app catalog for fragment extensions.
Microsoft has also updated the requirements for developers building Windows Terminal. Builds now require Visual Studio 2026 and Windows SDK 10.0.26100.
Users can download Windows Terminal 1.25.2733.0 from the official GitHub release as an MSIX bundle.
Microsoft has also been updating its other development tools. The company recently released the Visual Studio September 2026 Update with a new BYOM agent and NuGet fixer, while VS Code gained deeper multi-agent development features.
