XBOX Confirms Gamescom 2026 Presence Amid Studio Closure Reports
XBOX has confirmed its return to Gamescom 2026 alongside its annual FanFest event, teasing hands-on access to upcoming titles. “XBOX + gamescom + FanFest… see you there. Be among the first to play what’s next – including the Gears of War: E-Day campaign. Stay tuned for more,” posted XBOX on X.
The announcement comes at a sensitive time for the company. In recent weeks, multiple reports and industry insiders have claimed Microsoft is preparing another round of layoffs across its gaming division, with some studios reportedly at risk of closure.
Microsoft has yet to publicly address those claims. That silence has fueled backlash online, with some players arguing that the timing of the Gamescom announcement feels disconnected from the ongoing conversation surrounding XBOX’s internal restructuring plans.
The scrutiny has intensified following reports that several studios could face significant changes despite recent public support from XBOX leadership. Rumors surrounding teams such as Ninja Theory have got attention in the aftermath of the XBOX Games Showcase, although Microsoft has not confirmed any of the claims.
For now, the company appears determined to keep its marketing roadmap unchanged. Gamescom 2026 kicks off on August 26 in Cologne, Germany, where XBOX is expected to showcase upcoming first-party projects and offer attendees an early look at Gears of War: E-Day. Reportedly, the company will also share playable demo of Gears of War: E-Day at the event.
