The Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 may feature TMR thumbsticks, advanced haptics, new tension options, and extensive customization, according to a new leak.

A new leak reportedly reveals specifications for Microsoft’s unannounced controller. The information allegedly comes from data scraped from the Xbox Design Lab storefront.

Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 could get major stick upgrades

The leaked data points to TMR or Hall Effect thumbsticks, which could improve durability and reduce the risk of stick drift.

Microsoft may also offer several thumbstick configurations. The leak mentions standard, loose, and tight tension settings, along with silent and long-stick variants.

Another major upgrade could come from advanced haptics. The controller reportedly uses VCA motors alongside the traditional impulse-trigger motors found on current Xbox controllers.

An adjustable audio scroll wheel also appears among the leaked features.

Design Lab could offer extensive customization

The Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 could launch with significantly more customization through Xbox Design Lab.

The leaked options reportedly include multiple faceplates, colors, metal finishes, engravings, D-pads, and rear paddle designs.

The data also lists 27 mapped topper and paddle combinations, suggesting Microsoft could give players more control over both the controller’s appearance and layout.

Microsoft may offer four Xbox Elite Controller Series 3 models

Four SKUs reportedly appeared in the leaked storefront data.

Microsoft could offer configurations with and without advanced haptics, along with separate base and “complete” packages.

The complete versions may include accessories such as a charging dock and carrying case, although Microsoft has not confirmed those details.

Previous leaks have also suggested that the Elite Series 3 could support direct Wi-Fi connectivity for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Those reports pointed to easier switching between Xbox, Bluetooth devices, and other hardware as another possible upgrade.

Microsoft has also reportedly focused on quality control and repairability following complaints about the Elite Series 2.

An official reveal could be getting closer

The controller’s apparent appearance in Xbox Design Lab data could indicate that Microsoft is preparing for an official announcement.

A 2026 holiday launch remains possible, but Microsoft has not confirmed the controller, its specs, pricing, or release date.

Meanwhile, questions remain around Microsoft’s broader controller plans, particularly the future of the Xbox Cloud Gaming Controller. At the same time, 51 Xbox Play Anywhere games are coming in October as Microsoft continues expanding its cross-device Xbox strategy.
