Obsidian Entertainment’s survival game Grounded is headed for television. It is the latest game-to-television adaptation – joining the likes of Halo on Paramount+ and Arcane on Netflix – in what is increasingly becoming a entertainment trend.

Published by Xbox Game Studios, Grounded the game is set for a September 2022 full release, though the game is currently playable in preview form on Xbox Game Pass. Taking inspiration from movies like A Bug’s Life and Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, Grounded follows the adventures of four teenage friends who have been shrunk to the size of insects. Together they must survive the perils of the backyard and uncover a conspiracy that threatens the entire town. So far the game’s early access run has attracted more than 10 million players.

Xbox will be working with Waterproof Studios/SC Productions, Bardel Entertainment, and Kinetic Media to bring the Grounded show to fruition. Screenwriter Brent Friedman, who is also working on a TV adaptation of Earthworm Jim, has been tapped to direct the story of Grounded, which will loosely follow that of the game.
