Anthropic Renames Claude Max 5x and 20x Plans, Removes Ultra’s 5-Hour Limit for Verified Accounts
Anthropic is renaming its Claude Max plans and making a notable change to usage limits for its highest-paying customers. Max 5x is becoming Max, while Max 20x is getting the Ultra name. The prices remain unchanged, but verified Ultra subscribers are also getting relief from the five-hour usage limit.
Claude Max 20x is now Ultra, and prices stay the same
Earlier today, Anthropic announced the changes on X. The company is simplifying its subscription names without changing what existing subscribers pay each month.
The former Max 5x plan, priced at $100 per month, will now simply be called Max. Meanwhile, the $200-per-month Max 20x subscription is becoming Ultra. Both plans offer higher usage allowances than Claude Pro, although usage limits still apply.
That means existing subscribers don’t need to change anything. Their subscriptions will continue under the new names, with no price increase announced alongside the rebranding.
Verified Ultra users get a major usage-limit change
One important detail concerns Ultra subscribers who regularly hit Claude’s usage limits. Anthropic says it is removing the five-hour limit for verified Ultra accounts, starting with most existing subscribers.
However, the change does not immediately apply to every account. Newer Ultra subscribers will retain a temporary limit until their accounts are verified. Anthropic says affected users will receive an email when the restriction is removed. All that said, weekly limits will remain unchanged, so Ultra is not becoming completely unlimited.
